‘I don’t have any interviews’: Rich Rodriguez dismisses reports of West Virginia contacts

Jacksonville State coach Rich Rodriguez quickly shut down a report that he was preparing to interview for the head coaching job at West Virginia on Friday.

“I don’t have any interviews,” the veteran coach said after Jax State’s 52-12 victory over Western Kentucky in the Conference USA championship game.

“I have nothing planned except that I’m going to have a great day tomorrow with Miss Rita and the kids and Roxie and Rambo, an absolutely great day on Sunday watching a little movie and then starting preparations for that on Monday great bowl game we’ll see here in a few weeks.”

WVNews reported Friday that Rodriguez was reportedly ready to interview for the vacant position in West Virginia.

Neal Brown was fired from his position on the show on December 1 after six seasons; The former Troy coach posted a 37-35 record during his tenure with the Mountaineers.

Rodriguez, a native of Grant Town, West Virginia, was West Virginia’s head coach for seven seasons and led the program to its greatest success; he compiled a record of 60-26.

The coach also served as head coach at West Virginia’s Salem and Glenville State programs.

“The reports are just rumors, right? Total rumors,” Rodriguez said. “My focus has been and will continue to be on these guys at Jax State. If there are rumors about a coach getting a job, it’s probably because his players and coaches are doing pretty well. So if I’m offered a job, it’s because these guys and their teammates are doing a good job.”

Jax State (9-4), which won its first conference championship at the FBS level, will wait for its bowl destination, which is expected to be announced Sunday.
