Anthony Edwards is on a roll and putting in a lot of work – but the NBA star says he doesn’t plan on making an acting debut any time soon.

“I don’t know, man. I’m not going to lie,” Edwards tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview, coupled with his partnership with Chipotle. “This is difficult. I won’t lie. Making this film gave me a new respect for acting. I don’t think I’m suitable for this job.

In the film in question – 2022 Hurrywith Adam Sandler as an NBA scout – Edwards earned praise for his acting skills as trash-talking presumed top draft pick Kermit Wilts.

But the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft tells PEOPLE that he’s more focused these days on his real team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and their chance to make another deep run in the playoffs after failing in the last one The Western season came up short in the conference finals.

After an offseason trade that sent Edwards’ on-field complement and his hilarious off-field sidekick, Karl-Anthony Towns, to the New York Knicks, the Georgia product welcomes two new teammates – Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo – and likes her chances.

“It was fun,” Edwards says. “It was fun figuring it out and going through the ups and downs. I won’t say we have it figured out now, but we’re trying and it’s going in the right direction, so it’s going well for me.”

Is there one more thing Ant made sure to turn around? His commitment to nutrition and diet.

The man who once claimed he ate 21 bags of Chester’s Hot Fries a week and whose devotion to eating Popeyes was much to Towns’ chagrin has given way to someone determined to keep his body fat down, and he’s calling Chipotle one of his friends “point of contact”.

At 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds, Edwards has a favorite order, which the company has dubbed the Anthony Edwards Bowl: half chicken, half steak, brown rice, fresh tomato salsa, roasted chili corn salsa and lettuce.

“It’s just me,” he says of his order. “I am nice and simple. I’ll get straight to the point. I don’t do much fooling around.”

With a vision of a Christmas game in Dallas against the Mavericks (who Edwards says are one of the top teams in the West along with the Oklahoma City Thunder) in his head, Ant dances as the headliner of that team, stepping into the role of what many have anointed him the future face of the NBA.

“I’m old, man,” the 23-year-old jokes to PEOPLE. “I’m getting older.”
