“I just went to the toilet”

“I just went to the toilet”

It took a while for pitchers like Justin Verlander and others to get used to the pitch clock, which was introduced in 2023. Until then, no pitcher had to worry about how quickly he had to work on the mound.

But it wasn’t just the players who had to get used to the pitch clock. Fans also had to get used to a new game that developed much faster than before.

One of those fans was Verlander’s supermodel wife Kate Upton. In April, she recalled on SiriusXM a moment when she missed a few innings of the ballgame while taking a bathroom break.

“The pitch clock sped up (the game) so much. I’m like, ‘How did I miss two innings? I just went to the toilet.’ It’s so much faster,” Upton said.

Before the pitch clock, fans could go to the bathroom, grab a snack and still be back before missing multiple innings. Now fans have to act much faster if they don’t want to miss out on the action.

Fans still have the two minutes between innings that was introduced in 2019. So if there was ever a time to stand up for a game, this would be your best bet.

Being the wife of a starting pitcher is much different than being a position player or even a DH. The starting players pitch once a week, while the others are allowed to play almost every day.

That makes these starts even more nerve-wracking for some pitchers. They have to do their best while at the same time seeing the field sparingly.

While this is a difficult task for pitchers, it is a difficult task for the pitchers’ wives watching their starts. Kate Upton revealed the nervous energy that comes with a Justin Verlander launch.

“I think women pitchers are a little different than women position players because position players play every single game and so they can’t be as attached to every single play. “I feel like the women starting pitchers have a more nervous energy because they only play once every five days,” Upton said.

Upton believes things are more important for pitchers’ wives than position players’ wives. They are much more focused on every pitch as they only see their man starting 30 games if he is lucky.
