If it’s still cheaper to cut the cord and stream, then it’s not by much. The price of YouTube TV has increased again and now costs $83 per month to watch the same channels that were previously available. For many, this was the final straw that broke the camel’s back. Luckily, there are plenty of services to watch instead of YouTube TV, and I tried Fubo TV thanks to a Cyber ​​Monday discount.

With YouTube TV’s new pricing, Fubo is cheaper at just $80 per month, but that depends on the tier you choose. I expect the basic tier, or Essential as Fubo calls it, with its 200+ channels to be more than enough for most people. The Pro tier, which I tried for a month, includes everything included in Essential, in addition to regional sports networks. In case you’re not up to date, YouTube TV lost access to these sports networks a few years ago. So it’s nice to have a streaming service that allows access again without having to opt for a third-party subscription.

Price and availability

Fubo TV offers four different levels to choose from. These include Essential, Pro, Elite and Latino. Essential costs $80 per month, while Pro is available for that price plus the price of the regional sports package in your area. For me that puts the price at $93 per month, but varies depending on where you live.

The Elite tier rises to $90 and includes a 4K package for channels that support it. Your channel count increases from 298 to 298 and you get access to the regional sports network, but that’s included as an additional charge on top of the $90. The Latino section includes 33 Spanish-language channels, including sports, television, news and entertainment.

What I like about Fubo TV

Very similar to YouTube TV

When I logged into Fubo TV, I was confronted with a very familiar interface. As someone coming from YouTube TV, it was intuitive as the two services have a lot in common. It was easy for me to install the app on my Apple TV 4K and start watching what I wanted, so I didn’t have any issues with the setup. Even if you’re not from YouTube TV, it’s not difficult to quickly get up to speed with the app and get used to it.

The big thing for me is the integration of regional sports networks. In my opinion, this is a huge advantage over YouTube TV, even if it comes with an increased price that is only shown at the end of the checkout process. FanDuel Sports Network costs $20 per month, so bundling it with YouTube TV would end up being more expensive for me than purchasing Fubo’s Pro tier. If you don’t watch sports, the Essential tier is now cheaper than YouTube TV at $80 per month and offers largely the same channels.

Another nice feature is multi-streaming. While YouTube TV offers the same features, Fubo lets you choose what you want to multistream rather than just limiting yourself to specific sports games. For example, I was able to watch Monday Night RAW, two Monday Night Football games and the Adam Sandler classic 50 First Dates at the same time. I mostly use it to just flip through the channels, but it’s still nice that I can choose my own shows and movies. However, it seems that it only works on my Apple TV 4K as I cannot reproduce it on my desktop or tablet. While I like a lot about the service, it does have some drawbacks.

What I don’t like about Fubo TV

Nothing is perfect

While I like a lot about Fubo TV, there are still some areas of improvement. The big problem for me is the lack of Turner networks. That means TBS, TNT and Tru TV are all missing, and that’s a huge hit for sports fans. While you can get the regional channels, losing these three channels means you’ll miss a lot during basketball season, and March Madness can’t compete. This can be fixed with a Max subscription, but I wish it didn’t come to that.

Another thing is that although the price is lower than YouTube TV, it would have been nicer if the price was more than $3 lower. Any amount is nice, but it’s not exactly a great incentive if you’re trying to convince someone to switch from one service to another.

Fubo TV doesn’t support 5.1 surround sound, but that’s not necessarily a problem for many people. I have a surround sound setup at home, and even though YouTube TV supports it, I still force stereo sound in most cases. Maybe it’s just me, but I noticed that the Fubo feed became noticeably blurrier on the way to commercials. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a problem I didn’t have with YouTube TV.

While researching another service, Sling TV came up. Sling is available at a much cheaper price of $55 for largely the same channels, but lacks local channels like CBS, NBC and Fox. This problem can be alleviated by using an antenna, but this comes at an additional cost for many people these days. On the other hand, it’s a one-time purchase that gives you access to local channels, making Sling much more attractive. It all depends on your situation, and while Fubo represents good value for money for me, it’s not the best for everyone.

Should you sign up for Fubo TV?

I think it’s worth a try

Ultimately, I would recommend Fubo TV. Many services give you a discount on the first month, and Fubo TV is no different, so we’re giving it a try for that reason alone. If you’re coming from YouTube TV, you’ll notice a lot of similarities between the two services.

It’s best to take a look at what each tier comes with, as you can save a little money if you don’t care about the 4K package or regional sports. I don’t think Fubo TV’s regular price is enough to truly convert a YouTube TV user, even with the price increase. The loss of the Turner broadcasters is a big deal for sports viewers, and it’s also a big deal if you’re an All-Elite Wrestling fan. AEW will begin streaming on Max in 2025, but it still doesn’t feel good having to sign up for another service to watch a show you automatically get on another at no additional cost. Ultimately, I plan on keeping Fubo TV at least through the end of the NBA regular season.
