I never knew it was New Jersey’s most popular Christmas song

I never knew it was New Jersey’s most popular Christmas song

Now that we’re officially in December, we need to mentally prepare ourselves to hear Christmas music just about everywhere we go for the next few weeks.

Let’s face it, some are tastier than others.

For example, if I never hear “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas” again, I will be completely satisfied. The voice is terrifying, the concept is stupid, pretty much every part of it is annoying.

On the other hand, I’m completely guilty if I hear “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses once or twice outside of the holiday season.

It’s too much fun not to, plus you get to say the word “damn” in a Christmas song! It’s tough.

However, none of these are the most popular Christmas song in the Garden State, and I have to say: I’m shocked at what they are.

Most popular according to FinanceBuzz research conducted on Google Trends.

No, it’s not Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” although I think it should be. Not only does it have an obvious connection to New Jersey, it’s also, in my opinion, by far the best rendition of this song.

The fact that we even keep the spoken part of the song when it is played on the radio shows how excited people are when they hear it.

The most popular Christmas song among New Jerseyans is “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey.

I consider myself an apologist for All I Want for Christmas Is You, I think it’s great and it was featured in Love Actually. That’s good enough for me.

Still, I was shocked that it was the most popular song because in recent years the tide seems to have turned on this song.

It became so popular that you can’t escape it. You can leave a store in a mall while it’s ending, and then when you get to your next store, it’ll be at the beginning of the song in their rotation.

In fact, the same song was voted the most annoying Christmas song by respondents in a survey also conducted by FinanceBuzz. However, that doesn’t seem to stop us from making progress on our commute to work in the Garden State.
