OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Today is a FIRST ALERT 6 WEATHER DAY as freezing drizzle threatens after 4 p.m. and continues to spread throughout the night.

After the cold start in the low teens, it becomes difficult to warm up the temperatures. Clouds are likely to increase and stand in the way of significant warming. A high of around 31 may be the best we can get on the subway, and that may not happen until close to midnight.

The chance of freezing drizzle continues to increase tonight, with a light glaze becoming more common after sunset.

Many of us can expect widespread ice areas of 0.1 inches by the end of this event, but some locations north of I-80 could see even larger amounts of ice. The greatest likelihood of this occurring is in west-central Iowa.

We should be able to warm to just above 32°C by sunrise on Saturday at the latest, but there will still be cool showers on the map. Starting Saturday, there could even be persistent freezing rain north of I-80, further increasing icing levels. We will warm to 36 degrees by the afternoon and that should melt the ice.

By Sunday, high temperatures will be significantly warmer, into the 40s, hopefully some sunshine will come through.
