If Aaron Rodgers returns to the Jets, Garrett Wilson might want out

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely that the Jets will bring quarterback Aaron Rodgers back for another year, especially as he continues to let owner Woody Johnson down.

There’s another reason for the Jets to move on. Should Rodgers return, receiver Garrett Wilson could look for a way out.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Wilson could ask for an exchange when Rodgers returns.

Wilson, the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, is eligible for a new contract after the current season.

Rodgers and Wilson reportedly suffered an “explosion” during camp. The receiver’s numbers weren’t off the charts compared to his first two seasons despite the arrival of Rodgers BFF Davante Adams. During the year, Wilson was targeted 141 times, with 90 catches for 987 yards and six touchdowns.

Of course, the quarterback in Wilson’s first two seasons wasn’t one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

So, yeah, Wilson should probably get more. His talent is undeniable. With Rodgers at quarterback, things are even more complicated.

For the Jets, it’s not that complicated. A new GM and coach should be ready to continue the move that brought down their predecessors. Even if the new regime wants Rodgers, Woody (and/or his teenage sons) may not.

And even if the Jets want Rodgers, he might not want to return to a place riddled with leaks. The final attack was a direct shot at Rodgers.
