A massive earthquake appears to have struck El Salvador after an emergency alert reported that a magnitude 6.2 quake was detected 30 miles off the coast of the South American country.

The country’s Environment Ministry reported a strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the country today. Footage shared on social media showed the alarming effects of the natural phenomenon, which shook homes in many areas but did not cause a tsunami. According to Volcano Discovery, the “very strong magnitude 6.2 earthquake” occurred in the North Pacific at 11:18 a.m. local time (GMT -6).

The release said the quake had a shallow depth of 50 km (31 miles) and that people across a large area felt the shaking.

Central America has often been hit by terrible – and often fatal – earthquakes. In 2021, neighboring Mexicans feared the end was approaching when “blue lights” were seen across the sky following a powerful earthquake off the country’s Pacific coast.

The magnitude 7.0 quake shook the city of Acapulco, killing one person, damaging buildings and causing landslides that covered a major highway.

El Salvador
Government officials said there was no risk of a tsunami for El Salvador residents

Residents fled to the streets as buildings swayed, sidewalks swayed, while their nerves were further shaken by blue lights appearing in the sky.

Last year, Britain itself was rocked by an earthquake after the small village of Gotham in Nottinghamshire was the center of an earthquake on December 17th.

Experts at the British Geological Society say there are around 300 earthquakes in the UK every year that are absorbed by advanced technology. However, only 30 are actually felt by the residents. In addition, there are hundreds of events per year that sometimes go unnoticed due to the need for extremely sensitive equipment.
