In my opinion, the Nvidia RTX 5090 Founders Edition is the best looking graphics card I've ever seen... ever, actually

With all the technical spec announcements for the next-gen Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs, allow me to briefly cursory – the RTX 5090 in particular looks pretty darn good, and I think we should all stop for a moment and admire it.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking before I get excited. Admit it, this is a mean-looking piece of PC hardware:

Okay, maybe I’ve been awake too long and the jet lag combined with all the neon lights of Las Vegas might be distorting parts of my brain. But this is a really strong design with some nice little details that I’m just starting to appreciate.

Look at the angled power connector. The subtle shroud. The restrained, yet menacing design indicates this. Cor, phwoar, and… well, I’ll dial it back a bit. What’s almost even more impressive here, however, is the size. It’s still a huge block of silicon, plastic and metal – but I can’t be the only one surprised that it looks slightly smaller than the RTX 4090 it replaces.

Hard to say, I know. But I had visions of an absolute cinder block of a GPU in my head at various points, and the result looked much smaller. I recently held an RTX 4090 FE in my hands and thought to myself that the design actually seems to be getting a bit old, now we have all-black, super slim designs like the RTX 4080 Super.

Nvidia seems to have leaned into this aesthetic a bit with the new cards, and I’m all for it. While it doesn’t quite match the F-117 Nighthawk-like aesthetic of the RTX 4080 Super, there are some details that reflect it.

Of course, AIB cards will still feature some terrible case designs. That’s for sure. I’m sure we’ll get three fan monoliths from different manufacturers that look like they come from a different era of PC hardware design.

But the Founders Edition RTX 50 series cards? I like it. I know it’s inappropriate to judge an internal component based on its appearance alone, but if it were a Shroud design competition, I’d say the new cards are some of the nicest I’ve seen to date . Now I’m going to get some sleep because I’m obviously drunk on the real GPU announcements after months of covering rumors and speculation with an overly critical eye.

The new Nvidia cards are here and they look great. That’s enough for me tonight.
