The first full trailer for Dexter: Original Sin has been released, giving a taste of the prequel series’ setup. Based on the early years of serial killer Michael C. Hall, it follows him as a young man beginning his murderous journey.

The younger version is played by Patrick Gibson, but his inner voice ensures Hall returns to his iconic role. And now fans are convinced that he may be coming back in an even bigger role too. This is evident from the opening of the new trailer, which begins where the original show ended: with Dexter bleeding to death in the snow.

However, the murderer soon finds himself hospitalized as doctors desperately try to save him. “It really is as they say, life flashes before your eyes,” he says in a voiceover. The trailer then shows something about how Dexter got his job and what his relationship with his father is like. Check it out above.

However, it’s the first part of the clip that spawned all the fan theories. Underneath the video on YouTube, user Joeblessed wrote: “My prediction for the final episode is that Dexter wakes up from the flashback of his life in the hospital and is ready to escape.” User Timewarpiaman agreed, commenting: “Dexter is alive, he didn’t die . He’ll be back soon. SURPRISE!”

A third fan named Jordycettv joked: “New Blood: ‘He’s dead. He’s 100% dead. We’re not doing it again, he’s gone.’ Original Sin: ‘Just kidding!'” Crooper6052 added: “This will never let Dexter live to 90.”
