In the first trailer for 28 Years Later, the dead are still raging

It feels like we just heard about Danny Boyle and Alex Garland 28 years later was in development, but the long-awaited sequel already has a full-length trailer and a firm release date.

Set almost 30 years after the rage virus first broke out, 28 years later focuses on the lives of a new group of survivors who have managed to find a modicum of safety on an isolated, tethered island. Since the island is only connected to the mainland by a long, narrow and heavily guarded path that could disappear at high tide, people like Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) can build a somewhat stable life.

However, things look completely different and dangerous on the mainland, where all sorts of new mutations have emerged in the infected over time. While the trailer doesn’t really give a sense of why Jamie wants to travel into infected territory, it does make it clear that he will meet other people who have somehow managed to survive among the rabid pseudo-undead. Between that CleanWith their masks and skull towers seen in the trailer, the human survivors on the mainland seem almost scarier than the infected they fear. But as disturbing as the trailer is, what makes it so enjoyable is the news 28 years later is scheduled to hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
