Celebrity chef Ina Garten opens up about her broken relationship with Martha Stewart – and claims the story Stewart tells is “not entirely accurate.”

Garten, 76, spoke about the star during a live question-and-answer session at People magazine’s offices last Thursday.

Rumors of a rift between the pair have been circulating for several years, with Stewart, 83, most recently claiming that Garten stopped speaking to her after she was sent to prison for insider trading in 2004.

However, according to the Barefoot Contessa star, that didn’t actually happen.

“Well, let’s just say her story isn’t entirely accurate,” Garten told People.

“And that was 25 years ago,” she continued, laughing. “I think it’s time to let it go.”

Whether or not we’ll ever know the truth about their friendship, the two agree that their friendship fell apart in the early 2000s, with Garten claiming they “lost touch” when they moved to Connecticut pulled.

According to TIME Magazine, the two first met in the Hamptons when Garten still owned a grocery store in East Hampton.

She admitted that Stewart played a big role in launching her career.

“My desk was right in front of the cheese case and we were just talking,” Garten said during an appearance on “How to Be Amazing” with Michael Ian Black in 2017, according to the outlet.

“We actually ended up doing fundraisers together, at her house and I was the caterer, and we became friends after that,” Garten continued of Stewart.

Garten even shared that Stewart helped her get in touch with an editor when she was working on her first book proposal.

In addition to her recent comments about Garten, Stewart also spoke about it in a September New Yorker profile of Garten.

“When I was taken to Alderson Prison, she stopped talking to me,” Stewart told the outlet.

“I found that extremely disturbing and extremely unkind,” she continued, although her publicist later told the magazine she was “not bitter at all and there is no feud.”

Meanwhile, Garten has “strongly” denied that Martha’s prison sentence had anything to do with their dispute.

In her recent Netflix documentary Martha, which follows her life since childhood, she admitted that many friends dropped her when she went to prison.

However, Stewart said she wasn’t a big fan of the piece as she felt it focused too much on her “stupid trial.”

Stewart added that it felt “so unfair.”

She also said that many of her collaborations have not been featured in recent years.

However, the homebuilding mogul said she is currently writing an autobiography, which she said will be published by Random House in two years.
