NEW DELHI: Jasprit Bumrah provided a crucial breakthrough for India on the opening day of the fourth Test Border Gavaskar Trophy on Melbourne Cricket Groundand dismissed Usman Khawaja during the second session on Thursday.
Australia had dominated the morning session with their debutant Sam Konstas dazzling with a rapid fire 60 off 65 balls. His attacking innings pushed the hosts to 112 for 1 at lunch and left India searching for answers. After Konstas’ dismissal, Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne added 65 runs for the second wicket, thwarting the Indian attack and cementing Australia’s strong start.

Bumrah struck with the first ball of a new spell, removing Khawaja for 57. The experienced opener, who had hit six boundaries during his 121-ball spell, misjudged a pull shot on a long toss and tipped it to KL Rahul short mid-wicket. The dismissal left Australia at 154 for 2.
This was the fifth time in six innings that Bumrah dismissed Khawaja in the ongoing series. In 87 bowlings against Khawaja, Bumrah conceded just 24 runs while taking his wicket five times. The only exception was the second innings of the first Test in Perth, where Mohammed Siraj claimed Khawaja’s scalp.
