India vs Australia: India have faced some problems against the Australian bowling attack in the three innings they have played so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Twice now they have lost early wickets, with the pressure to score falling on the middle order, while a confident start in the second innings helped them to a 295-run win in Perth. But there was one batsman who shone under pressure in this series. The fact that 22-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy is playing in his first Test series makes it all the more special.

The Andhra all-rounder has shown determination and courage to help the team post respectable totals so far and delivered again as India appeared to be in a bind on the first day of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Nitish played his first pink-ball Test for India, taking the field when India were 87-5, soon after losing captain Rohit Sharma. Although wickets fell at the other end, Nitish played a knock that once again made him the top scorer of the innings, having impressed in Perth as India were bowled out for 150 in the first innings. His fearless approach saw him score 42 off 54 balls, an innings that included three fours and three sixes.

Nitish showed a mix of textbook punches and unconventional strokes as he defeated Scott Boland for 6,4,6, the first six being a reverse scoop that sailed over third man and into the packed Adelaide stands. Nitish’s attack helped India to a total of 180 as the innings ended with him losing to Mitchell Starc, who recorded his best Test figures of 6/48. Nitish’s three sixes were also the most by a batsman in an innings during a pink-ball Test in history, previously achieved only by Nathan Lyon.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has batted in Australia so far:

1st Test:- 41(59) (from 73/6 to 150); 38(27).
2nd test: – 42(54) (from 87/5 to 180).
