Indiana U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz says she will not work with the Republican Party in the House

U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz of Indiana, who won a third term last month, said she will not work with House Republicans or participate on committees when the 119th^Th Congress meets in January.

In a statement Tuesday about her decision, Spartz said the country is “on a fiscal collision course” and that “courage and structural changes” are not being made in Congress to prevent future problems.

“As a serious legislator and financial professional and not a clown, I will not continue to engage in circuses,” Spartz said in the statement.

Spartz said she plans to remain a registered Republican but would rather focus on helping President-elect Donald Trump and his appointees fulfill his promises to the new administration. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, for example, were appointed by Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency.

The decision not to attend the House Republican conference or committees could exclude Spartz from the Republican-led debate on legislation and priorities in the next Congress, where Republicans hold majorities in both the House and Senate and the White House Check house.

The congresswoman’s announcement is part of a long series of protests she has made against the federal government’s work in Washington, DC, since she was first elected in 2020. In one example, Spartz threatened to resign from Congress at the end of 2023 if lawmakers did not establish a commission to investigate the national debt.

In early 2023, Spartz announced that she would not seek a third term, but reversed that decision shortly before the filing deadline in early 2024. She gave herself three months to make her case to voters while also competing against eight other opponents in the GOP primary for 5th place^Th District.
