Indiana women’s basketball faces Southern Indiana State opponent

After an upset win over the University of Maine on Sunday, Indiana women’s basketball will host the University of Southern Indiana on Wednesday. The contest marks the first meeting between the Hoosiers and Screaming Eagles in program history.

Against Maine, Indiana shot 52.6% from the field and 50% from distance, its best shooting performance of the season. But overall, the Hoosiers have been hot and cold when it comes to scoring this season. The Hoosiers reached their season high shortly after shooting 29.1% from the field and making just four of their 26 3-point attempts against the Hoosiers University of North Carolina To November 25th in the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship.

“I feel like I speak on behalf of everyone. It’s a big challenge to constantly keep your head up when you’re having bad shooting nights or when you’re 30-something,” said graduate student supervisor Chloe Moore-McNeil after the win over Maine. “But I think the most important thing is just staying connected and realizing that we’re in this together.”

Head coach Teri Moren won’t change the Hoosiers’ plan due to the up-and-down shooting.

“I just think the best prescription for us is to stick with what we’re doing and make sure our kids continue to be there, before and after, they’re working on their shots, they’re getting outside shots.” The time required was part of our work here and our lifestyle,” said Moren. “Then you just keep stopping and trying to keep giving them reassurance that the next one is coming in.”

Wednesday’s game against Southern Indiana will be an opportunity for Indiana to find some consistency in scoring before its first Big Ten game against Penn State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania.

The Screaming Eagles enter the game on a six-game winning streak and are 7-1 on the season – their only loss coming against then-No. 17 University of Louisville. Southern Indiana most recently won its two games in the Puerto Rico Clasico against Youngstown State University on November 29th and Le Moyne College on November 30th.

Southern Indiana has had dominant performances this season as it currently holds an average victory margin of 20 points over its opponents.

Junior guard Ali Saunders leads Southern Indiana with 13.4 points, 4.6 assists and three steals per game. She scored a season-high 18 points in the Screaming Eagles’ season opener against Brescia University on November 4.

The game between the Hoosiers and Screaming Eagles is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Simon Skojdt Assembly Hall and will be streamed on Big Ten+.
