Inter Miami CF are transferring Diego Gómez to English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion for a club record fee

Inter Miami CF announced today that it has transferred midfielder Diego Gómez to Brighton & Hove Albion FC of the English Premier League for a club record transfer fee. The transfer fee is one of the most expensive foreign transfers in the history of Major League Soccer (MLS).

“The growth Diego has shown as a player since joining Inter Miami has been exponential. “His contributions to the team, both in midfield and in attack, were crucial for us at a historic time,” said Raúl Sanllehí, President of Football Operations. “The club has believed in his ability and potential from the start of the process and everyone at the club is delighted to have supported his development. We are delighted that Diego will continue to represent us as he makes the leap to one of the world’s top leagues, the English Premier League.”

The 21-year-old Paraguayan native San Juan Bautista moved to Inter Miami mid-season in July 2023 and developed into an important player for the club. In total, the versatile midfielder made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and ten assists. In particular, Gómez was instrumental in Inter Miami winning its first two titles in the club’s history by winning the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.

He appeared in five of seven games en route to winning the 2023 League Cup and scored a penalty in the decisive shootout in the final against Nashville SC. In 2024, he made 19 appearances, contributed three goals and seven assists, in the team’s best regular season to date, scored the most wins, goals and points in club history and won the historic first Supporters’ Shield title History Fashion by securing the MLS single-season points record (74).

Additionally, in his second year with the club, Gómez took first place in the prestigious 2024 22 U22 class presented by BodyArmor, which highlights the best young international and domestic players across the league.

On the international stage, Gómez played for the Paraguayan national team at youth and senior levels. The midfielder has so far played twelve games for his country’s senior national team, scoring one goal and one assist. He has also excelled at youth level La Albirrojaincluding captaining the U-20 team that secured the title at the 2022 South American Games. That year, he captained Paraguay’s U-23 team to glory in the 2024 CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament, finishing the competition as one of the three joint top scorers with five goals in seven appearances and two assists. Gómez then represented the 2024 Olympics in Paris and captained the team as they reached the quarterfinals, making it to the knockout stages for the third time ever La Albirrojas first participation in the tournament in 20 years.
