Iowa State defeated Miami 42-41 on Saturday, securing the program’s first 11-win season. But there was more at stake than just a new program record. Iowa State got to participate in one of college football’s more unusual traditions: eating the edible mascot at the Pop-Tarts Bowl. After the game, a giant walking Pop-Tart was lowered into a fake toaster. On the other side, a giant, edible Pop-Tart pops out – thankfully with no one in it – and waits for the winning team to eat it in celebration. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell and quarterback Rocco Becht did the honors on Saturday, pulling apart the giant batter and throwing pieces to the rest of the team. You can check it out below. Some Iowa State fans got the party started early.

“I’m going to eat like 18 Pop-Tarts tonight,” one fan told KCCI’s Pepper Purpura.
