Iowa State football traveled to the Pop-Tarts Bowl to play Miami

After failing to win a Big 12 Conference title or a berth in the College Football Playoff, Iowa State football is turning its attention to the next best thing: extending the program’s single-season win record to 11 victories while its seniors get off the field send and end the year in full swing.

The Cyclones travel to Orlando, Florida to play Miami (Florida) in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Saturday, December 28th. Their fate in the bowl game was announced Sunday.

The game begins at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast by ABC.

“Just to have that final moment, it will be a defining moment for this program to win 11 games and finish better than last year,” senior receiver Jaylin Noel said. “I know last year we went to Memphis and obviously didn’t win the game, but this year it’s going to be different. We have to prepare, maintain the standards, continue to hold the boys accountable and anyone who doesn’t want that. “I don’t think that standard has to be up in the last game – but we will be prepared for it.”

Iowa State enters the Pop-Tarts Bowl with a record of 10-3.

The Hurricanes are now 10-2 this year. Miami went 6-2 in ACC play and finished third in the conference.

The Cyclones are looking for their first bowl game win since Jan. 2, 2021, when they defeated Oregon 34-17 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Since then, they have appeared in two bowl games: the Cheez-It Bowl on December 29, 2021 and last year’s Liberty Bowl. Iowa State lost to Clemson 20-13 in the Cheez-It Bowl. In last year’s season finale they lost to Memphis 36:26.

Iowa State is 5-12 all-time in bowl games. This will be the Cyclones’ seventh bowl game appearance under Matt Campbell, who is in his ninth year as head coach.

“The courage and toughness that (the seniors) have shown over the course of the last two years is like nothing I have ever seen,” Campbell said. “When you lose some of the guys we lost, and what happened to us at times this year, and never shying away, demanding to show every day how these young men led — that was just extraordinary.”
