Ipswich Town: Fans and players celebrate their first home win in the Premier League in 22 years

Delap, who McKenna described as “a different beast”, scored Ipswich’s first goal with a penalty in the 12th minute.

Incredibly, it was Town’s first Premier League penalty goal in more than 23 years – Marcus Stewart also scored against Chelsea in November 2001.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Delap took his league goal tally to seven this season – and only Cole Palmer, James Maddison and Ollie Watkins have scored more goals among England players.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Chelsea are among the top clubs monitoring the former Manchester City striker.

“His rate of improvement is really high for a young player,” McKenna said.

“His style is enjoyable for everyone. There aren’t many like him and he plays against incredible Premier League defenders every week.”

Delap also set up Ipswich’s second goal for Hutchinson and the former Chelsea winger, like all the home fans at Portman Road, was head over heels when the ball hit the net.

The celebration was fitting – a backflip.

“Everyone was asking me to do it so I thought I would do it for the first home win,” Hutchinson, also 21, told Sky Sports.

“It’s good to make history.”

Despite their win, Ipswich remain in the bottom three, although they managed to reduce the gap to 17th-placed Wolves and Safety to just one point.

The Tractor Boys’ next home game is against Brighton on January 16th.

With Delap and Hutchinson in this form and the pressure of this first home win, this evening could be theirs too.
