Irish singer Linda Nolan has died aged 65

Irish singer Linda Nolan has died aged 65 “surrounded by her devoted family” after a long battle with cancer.

The Dublin-born Irish star was part of the family group The Nolans, which also included her sisters Coleen, Maureen, Bernie, Denise and Anne.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, was given the all-clear in 2011, but was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2017. In 2020 it spread and was in her brain in 2023.

In a statement, her manager Dermot McNamara said: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Linda Nolan, celebrated Irish pop legend, television personality, Guinness World Records West End star, Sunday Times best-selling author and Daily Mirror columnist.”

“As a member of The Nolans, one of the most successful girl groups of all time, Linda achieved worldwide success; they became the first Irish band to sell over a million records worldwide; she toured the world and sold over 30 million records with hits like… I have to pull myself together, draw attention to myself and the cult disco classic I feel like dancing.

“Her distinctive voice and magnetic stage presence brought joy to fans around the world and secured her a place as an icon of British and Irish entertainment.”

“Beyond her incredible career, Linda dedicated her life to helping others, helping to raise over £20 million (€23.7 million) for numerous charities including Breast Cancer Now, Irish Cancer Society and Samaritans and countless others.”

“Her selflessness and tireless commitment to making a difference in the lives of others will forever be a cornerstone of her legacy.

“At the weekend Linda was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and admitted with double pneumonia. She fell into a coma in the early hours of Tuesday morning and was receiving end-of-life care surrounded by her dedicated family.

“At approximately 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, she passed away peacefully, with her loving siblings at her bedside who ensured she was embraced with love and comfort in her final moments at the age of 65.”

“Linda’s legacy extends beyond her incredible achievements in music and entertainment. She was a beacon of hope and resilience, sharing her journey to raise awareness and inspire others.”

The statement ended: “Her family kindly requests privacy during this difficult time as they and Linda’s friends mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman. Details of a celebration of Linda’s remarkable life will be announced in due course.”
