Is “Landman” coming back for season 2?

The first season of Countryman is a smash hit for Paramount. Accordingly, the latest Taylor Sheridan drama about the Texas oil industry premiered to around 15 million viewers in its first week diversity. Although the series has had its ups and downs since then, the on-screen pairing of Billy Bob Thornton and Ali Larter has ensured that the series remains interesting from episode to episode. Thornton was even nominated for a Golden Globe!

Countryman follows a Texas oilfield manager – aka landman – named Tommy Norris (Thornton) as he tries to maintain peace between the workers and the company’s billionaire owner, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm). It’s one of those Advil-a-day jobs. Tommy also has to take care of his family, which includes his ex-wife Angela (Larter) and his 17-year-old daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph). There’s also his son Cooper (Jacob Laughlin), who dropped out of college to learn to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Every new cast member creates more problems for Tommy week after week. In the penultimate episode, his most recent call to Monty landed his boss in the hospital with a heart attack. After a cliffhanger that alternately shows his hospital monitor, it looks like Hamm might not make it to the finale. Tommy also has to fight off the local cartel in the final episode of season one next week, as if the Landman didn’t have enough problems already.

Will there be one? Countryman Season 2?

If you ask Demi Moore (The substance), the answer is a resounding yes. The recent Golden Globe winner plays Monty’s criminally undervalued wife, Cami Miller. Speaking to Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival last summer, Moore revealed that she expects to return to Texas to film the second season.

“I have already completed the first season and am looking forward to us starting the second, which will take place early next year,” Moore said. “It’s a very interesting world in the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s a kind of subculture that we’ve never seen before, and that’s what I think Taylor (Sheridan) does so well.”

We’ll have to wait until the finale to see where Countryman is coming next, but it looks like Season 2 will begin filming shortly. Until then, Sheridan has the second season planned 1923 and what is to come Yellowstone spin-off, The Madisonto keep the viewers engaged.
