Is Malik Nabers playing today? Giants make big mistake, plus fantasy replacement

Not much has happened for the New York Giants this season. This also applies to the most important position in football, as the team parted ways with Daniel Jones, who has since signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite all of this, there is one item the front office can hold on to (and perhaps add to Joe Schoen’s soon-to-be relevant resume): Malik Nabers, the first-round pick. While he’s been frustrated with his poor QB play all season – and we feel that too – Nabers has turned heads on the field. Unfortunately, he’s been dealing with a hip flexor injury and a lingering groin injury lately, leading some experts to question whether the Giants should place him on injured reserve. By doing so, New York would avoid further injuries and take a step toward its inevitable rebuild, likely securing a top-three spot in the process.

Unfortunately, the Giants don’t feel that way. Nabers could actually play on Sunday despite two ongoing injuries.

According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, Nabers appears ready to face the New Orleans Saints. The latter specifically pointed out the risk of launching Nabers this week, even if it only plays a limited role.

“Although wide receiver Malik Nabers is dealing with a lingering groin injury and a hip flexor injury that makes him questionable for Sunday’s game against the Saints, and the team has already been eliminated from playoff contention, the Giants have no plans to have him out this season according to sources,” Schefter wrote on X.

Make it make sense! Yes, the Giants would be worse off without Nabors for the rest of the season, but are they really offering a good product either way? New York has a lot of work to do this offseason, and asking Nabors to play meaningless snaps won’t help matters.

While the Giants are expected to play Nabers, he is only expected to play a limited role against the Saints. That means limited goals and therefore limited points for fantasy football managers, many of whom could be in the playoffs this week. The easiest replacement — if he’s still available, which would be a surprise — is Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen, according to FanSided fantasy football expert Lior Lampert. If not, Lampert also mentions players like Keon Coleman and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as possible options.
