Is the Macy’s parade taking place in the rain?

Despite rainy weather forecast for New York City, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will go on rain or shine, as it has for decades.

Organizers are preparing for varying weather conditions, however some changes may occur if the weather is not ideal.

Rain is not enough to cancel the parade. The floats and performers adapt to the wet conditions, but marching bands and dancers can change their routines if it is too wet or slippery.

Are the balloons flying in the rain at the Macy’s Parade?

Rain doesn’t automatically cause the balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to land on the ground either.

However, wind can prevent the famous character balloons from flying. If sustained winds exceed 23 miles per hour or gusts exceed 35 miles per hour, New York regulations require the balloons not to fly.
