Is Tony Pollard playing today? Titans injury update vs. IND and fantasy replacement

Although it was a tough year for the Tennessee Titans, running back Tony Pollard wasn’t a reason for the tough year in Nashville. The former Cowboy has been a force to be reckoned with with his new team, even splitting multiple rushes at times and is quickly approaching the 1,000-yard mark for the 2024 season. However, there are questions ahead of his Week 16 game against the Colts as to whether he will be there arrives after suffering a worrying ankle injury.

Pollard’s training protocol during the week leading up to the Week 16 game against an AFC South rival is certainly cause for concern. The Titans held him out of practice on both Wednesday and Thursday because of his ankle, while he had limited practice on the Friday before the start of the weekend. That’s not what you want to see if you’re a Tennessee fan or a fantasy football manager with Pollard on your roster.

So will Pollard leave while he deals with this ankle injury? We’re here to get the Titans’ latest injury updates regarding their lead running back, but also to help fantasy managers find a replacement for Pollard due to the injury, especially in the middle of the fantasy playoffs where it’s too a live broadcast could come. or-die situation for your fantasy livelihood.

Pollard is officially considered questionable for the Titans in Week 16, but the Tennessee running back is expected to play. He has been dealing with the ankle injury for some time and has battled through it on multiple occasions, so it is currently expected that he will do so again on Sunday against the division rival Colts.

What’s notable, though, is that the Titans put a fair amount of pressure on Pollard last week when he took the field despite his ankle injury. Even more concerning was that the running back wasn’t productive, although his dream day was somewhat saved by a touchdown. He managed just 45 yards on 17 carries and didn’t catch a pass for the first time in a game this season.

Pollard performed well against the Colts but is still not committed to action and his limited effectiveness a week ago while coming off the injury are considerations for fantasy managers. It might be your prerogative to have some backup options in fantasy football or, if you’re completely risk-averse, to just start. These three players would be ideal options for this.

Patrick Taylor Jr. (49ers)

Although his roster is a bit high, Kendre Miller is a must-have if he is available in your fantasy league. Alvin Kamara has been ruled out for the Saints and Miller has shown some value in a limited role over the last two weeks. As the primary defender, and especially with Spencer Rattler starting at center, we could see the New Orleans offense really leaned on the young ball carrier in this game.

We’ll likely see Ameer Abdullah and Alex Mattison in the Raiders’ backfield at times, but Abdullah seems like the better option. His work rate in terms of carries is definitely questionable, but the fact that he caught all seven of his targets for 58 yards and a touchdown last week gives him a lot of upside, especially against a pretty terrible Jacksonville defense.

Who knows how deep the 49ers’ RB magic goes, but I’m willing to find out with Patrick Taylor Jr. With Isaac Guerendo representing the latest injury in San Francisco’s backfield, Taylor is the next man up, and while we certainly haven’t seen enough of him to say how good he is at this point is, but the benefits of being a Niners running back are always there.
