Isaiah Hartenstein, Oklahoma City Thunder end New York Knicks’ winning streak

After Friday night, NBA fans may be longing for a best-of-seven set between the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder later this summer – except, ironically, for Knicks and Thunder fans themselves.

The first of two anticipated meetings between the Knicks and Thunder lived up to its hype, but it was the host Oklahomans who prevailed with a 117-107 final at Paycom Center.

A familiar foe ended the Knicks’ long nine-game winning streak as Isaiah Hartenstein grabbed the Thunder’s best 14 rebounds in his first showdown with the Knicks since forgoing a third Manhattan tour and an $87 million contract in the offseason US dollars signed.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander immediately confirmed his Western Conference Player of the Month honors by scoring 33 points while Aaron Wiggins scored 19 off the bench, all but four in a final stretch in which the Thunder outscored the Knicks 37-19 .

With its 14th straight win, Oklahoma City (29-5) survived one of the Knicks’ best stretches of the season as they scored 36 points on 56 percent shooting in the second quarter to build a lead of as many as 14 .

The basketball world won’t have to wait long for a rematch, as the Thunder visit Madison Square Garden next Friday night for Hartenstein’s return. Meanwhile, the Knicks get right back to work against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night at the United Center (8 p.m. ET, MSG/NBA TV).
