It continues to snow heavily on the lake north of Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Heavy lake-effect snow continues well north of Syracuse toward Watertown. How much snow is expected to come, and will there be lake effect snow in the rest of Central New York? Details below…

Warnings for lake effects in the north

Lake Effect snow warnings remain in effect for Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties through Monday.

This will be a significant, long-lasting lake effect event.

Lake Ontario remains very warm in late November, warmer than at any time in the last 30 years.

The snow piles up to your feet

The lake effect snow band is not expected to fluctuate much Saturday evening and will remain in the heart of Jefferson, southwestern St. Lawrence and northern Lewis County. The band will also remain there for most of Sunday.

From Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, additional snow could be up to 2 feet or more in central Jefferson County, including Watertown.

As snow continues Sunday, another 8 to 16 inches is possible in the heart of the band, once again including Watertown.

What about Syracuse?

There will be little snow around Syracuse through Sunday, aside from occasional snow showers or thunderstorms.

High temperatures on Sunday will be cold again, in the lower to mid 30s. It will feel even colder, with a gusty breeze at times.

However, things start to change from Sunday night to Monday.

We’re heading to Syracuse on Monday!

A west-northwest wind shift is expected to shift the lake effect from the North Country to the Syracuse area Sunday night into Monday. A trough of low pressure will form over Central New York during this period.

We do not rule out the possibility that many in Syracuse and surrounding suburbs (particularly to the north and west) will face a few inches of snow Monday morning as we head back to school and work. For this reason a Note on winter weather was released for Onondaga, Cayuga and Wayne counties from 10 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday.
