It snows on Friday, then a winter storm approaches

It will snow lightly on Friday, but that’s just the start. A severe winter storm is approaching on Sunday.

FIVE. IN ORDER. DAISY, THANK YOU SO MUCH. YES, THEY SAY YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT OVER JANUARY. And if you can do that, you might be on the right track to building a new habit. OKAY GOOD. You know, stick with it if you can and if you want to. IF IT FIT INTO YOUR LIFE, IF IT FIT EXACTLY INTO THE SCHEDULE. Well, this weather doesn’t fit into any of our schedules at the moment. Unless you love the snow and cold weather, because we’re having both as we approach the first full week of January. So it’s still calm outside at the moment and there are still a few gusts of wind making their way to some places. Areas, particularly north of Loop 275, will see light snow. There was only a few patchy rains. YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE BLUE APPEARING HERE ON THE RADAR. When you wake up in the morning, most of us will be dry, but it will be a cold start to the day. TOMORROW BREAKFAST TEMPERATURES WILL REACH 20°F AND THEN WE WILL SEE SOME FILTERED SUNSHINE THE REST OF THE DAY. While I think we’ll have decent cloud cover tomorrow, the high pressure will at least keep us dry. The same cannot be said as we start Friday morning. THEN THIS SYSTEM OUT HERE WILL GET A QUICK ROUND OF SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL. So for the rest of tonight, FUTURECAST will only show you a few patchy storms again, a possibility throughout the night. But I think I’ll see you tomorrow morning at six seven. We’re drying out and maybe we’ll see some filtered sunshine at some point. BUT overall there will be clouds for a good portion of the day tomorrow. NOW TEMPERATURES WILL RISE TO AROUND 36°C TOMORROW AFTERNOON. BUT THE WIND. There will be a light breeze, just enough to make it feel more like the 20s and up to around 30 for most of the day. THURSDAY. THEN WE COME TO THURSDAY EVENING, FRIDAY MORNING. THIS QUICK SNOW SYSTEM WILL BRING A QUICK LIGHT SNOWFALL, JUST IN TIME FOR YOU TO GET OUT THE DOOR FRIDAY MORNING FOR YOUR POTENTIAL FIRST TRIP TO WORK OF THE NEW YEAR. SO FRIDAY MORNING, WITH LIGHT SNOW EVERYWHERE FROM 5 INCHES TO ONE INCH LOOKS POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY. And I think so because the sun will have set for the majority of the snowfall and temperatures will still be on the cold side by this point. We will see that some of the snow will stick not only to grassy areas but also to roads. So pay attention to untreated roads. ON FRIDAY MORNING. It will be a little drier later on Friday and then dry weather is expected. Until it’s Saturday. This is our short break in this active weather, as a winter storm will set its sights on the Ohio Valley, including us here in the greater CINCINNATI area, on Sunday and Monday. RIGHT NOW THE IMPACT OF THIS STORM STILL LOOKS QUITE MAJOR AS WE ENTER SUNDAY AFTERNOON, SUNDAY NIGHT AND THEN EVEN PART OF THE DAY ON MONDAY. IN ADDITION, WE WILL NOW SEE A SERIOUS COLD PERIOD SETTING IN HERE. Temperatures will drop into the single digits and barely warm into the teens. It looks like we’re nearing the middle and end of next week and it feels like temperatures are also dropping into the single digits. So not only are we talking about potentially a pretty big storm brewing here as we wrap up the weekend, but we’re also talking about some dangerous cold coming in the wake of this snowfall. AS WE UNDERSTAND THE WEEKEND, WE WILL BE HERE ON SATURDAY NIGHT, 11:00 AM, THAT THE SYSTEM WILL BE MOVING INTO THE OHIO VALLEY. Now there are still some question marks about where this is actually going to lead, and there are, in a sense, two different scenarios playing out for us. Either way, it still looks like we’ll feel a pretty big impact from this storm. BUT ONE GIVES US A CHANCE FOR MORE OF A WINTER MIX TO MIX WITH SOME OF OUR SNOWFALLS. That will be the case if the storm center shifts just a little bit further north, which will also reduce some of our snow totals. If it heads south, we’ll be dealing with almost exclusively snowfall here in the greater CINCINNATI area. And again, sometimes it looks like some of the snow will be heavy. So wait to see if this influential system moves in by Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, bringing severe weather impacts to travel. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO GO TO PITTSBURGH AND GO BACK ON SUNDAY, THE EARLIER YOU CAN RETURN TO THAT POINT, THE BETTER. As we leave this behind us, the cold weather is really making itself felt here. BUT MOST OF THESE IMPACT WILL BE FEELED ON SUNDAY AND BEGIN IN THE AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY. BOTH DAYS WILL BE WEATHER EFFECTIVE DAYS FOR US. I still can’t tell you exactly how much snow we’ll see. And even if we could see some of that wintry mix, because that’s going to have a big impact on those overall numbers. BUT RIGHT NOW I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS WILL BE EVENING, AFTERNOON, SUNDAY, REALLY REAL, AND AFTER THAT WE WILL SEE HOW THE COLD SETS IN HERE. Watch for changes to this forecast. I really believe that in the next 24 to 36 hours we will be able to reveal more and more details about what we expect.
