It will be a drenching rain in West Michigan on Sunday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Continued rain is expected across West Michigan for much of the day on Sunday.

TODAY Constant rain from sunrise to sunset
LOW 36°
HIGH 44°
WIND NE 10-20 mph

TODAY Heavy rainfall is expected across most of western Michigan, particularly between dawn and dusk. Rainfall totals could reach up to 1 inch in places, especially along I-94 and I-69, although steady rain will continue northwest of there. High temperatures will reach into the mid 40s.

TONIGHT As the low pressure system moves northeast into Canada, cooler air could turn leftover rain into snow Sunday evening. This is most likely east of US-131 where an inch or two of slushy snow is possible. Lows will only fall into the mid 30s.

MONDAY Calm, mild conditions are expected to return, with the possibility of some afternoon sunshine. Highs will reach the mid-40s again (likely the warmest high in quite some time).

TUESDAY NEW YEAR’S EVE There is a possibility of a light wintry mix, particularly toward I-94, although amounts and impacts appear small at this time. However, gradual cooling will be underway, with highs in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY NEW YEAR As colder air arrives, lake effect snow showers are possible as highs reach the mid 30s. Any snowfall will likely be light.

The look forward A longer period of cold and (at times) snow can be expected at least in the first half of January, with both system snow and lake snow almost certain.
