LONGEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR. Speaking of winter, we definitely felt it tonight. I mean, just the cold and the rain. NOT MY FAVORITE COMBINATION. NOT IDEAL. A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD SAY WHEN IT GETS COLD THEY WANT TO HAVE SNOW. INSTEAD OF RAIN, RIGHT? YES. YES. I think I’m in that camp for sure. BUT WE WILL HAVE SOME WARMER TEMPERATURES. There is still some rain forecast on our route over the coming days so there are opportunities for that. Get a live look across Mount Airy now. You’ll see the wet roads and we’ll see showers continue to develop over the next few hours. AND THEN IT SHOULD LESS UP A LITTLE, MAYBE JUST A LITTLE DRIZZY AND A LITTLE FOG AT DAYBREAK. WE HAVE SOME CHANGES ON THE WAY, ONE OF THEM IS THE WARM UP. I just told you about highs that will be in the 60s for part of the week. WE HAVE A FEW showers that will continue this week and then another round of cold air in the second half of the week. IT’S pretty cool out there TODAY. 41 WAS THE OFFICIAL HIGH, ABOUT TEN DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL AFTERNOON TEMPERATURE. We were pretty steady all afternoon. GREENSBORO has a high of 41°, but note how much warmer it is to the east. A little closer to some of the warm air along the coast. THIS COLD AIR IS CLAMPED AGAINST THE MOUNTAINS. NOW IT’S GETTING A LITTLE WARMER. In fact, I think it will be in the 50s and then 60s tomorrow on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then colder air arrives next weekend. Temperatures are currently in the high 30s, about where we have been for the last few hours. 37 IN REIDSVILLE WINSTON-SALEM A LITTLE WARMER IN ASHEBORO AT 41. AND THEN WHEN WE GO TO THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHOBS TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE FREEZING IN MOST COMMUNITIES. So that’s good. WE HAVE 37 IN MOUNT AIRY, NOW 35 IN JEFFERSON. We are seeing some fog, although fairly dense in the higher elevations and mountains, even off the brushy mountains in western WILKES County. So keep that in mind. SOMETHING FOGTY TRAVEL CAN BE EXPECTED BETWEEN BOONE AND WILKESBORO ALONG THE 421. ALSO WET ROADS EXTENDING EAST INTO THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. WE HAVE HAD LITTLE AMOUNTS OF RAIN THROUGHOUT THE TRIAD, AND EVEN IN THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTMOUNTAINS A THIRD OF AN INCH OR LESS. BUT WE’RE DEFINITELY SEEING MORE RAIN THIS MONTH THAN THE LAST MONTHS WHERE WE’RE BELOW NORMAL IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER. THIS MONTH WE’RE AT LEAST ABOUT THREE QUARTER INCHES, WHICH IS SOMETHING ABOVE NORMAL. The fact is we have some moderate rainfall over Alamance County right now. YOU’RE SEEING THIS OVER BURLINGTON, A FEW SHOWERS DOWN ALONG THE 421 SOUTH AND EAST OF GREENSBORO. THERE IS WET WEATHER IN THE TRAPHILL AREA IN THE NORTHERN PART OF WILKES COUNTY, ALSO TRENDING TO THE EAST. So THOSE showers will be mostly light again and just for the next few hours as we head into tomorrow morning there will be some drizzle, lots of clouds forecast throughout the day, perhaps a hit and miss swing. LUNCH TIME UNTIL EARLY AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES SHOULD CLIMB TO 50°C BY LATE TOMORROW, SO WE’RE PREDICTING A HIGH OF 56°C. Chance of scattered showers. LOTS OF CLOUDS FOR YOUR MONDAY: Upper 40s and lower 50s for the foothills. ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF A THROUGH SHOWERS AND A HIGH OF 50 IN THE MOUNTAINS. WE HAVE A SMALL CHANCE OF RAIN FOR TUESDAY. A MORE SIGNIFICANT FRONT IS ARRIVING ON WEDNESDAY SO THE CHANCE OF RAIN IS HIGH AND THEN TEMPERATURES BEHIND THE FRONT WILL CALL, WHICH WILL TAKE US BELOW THE FRONT AGAIN IN THE MORNING FROM FRIDAY.
