FOXBORO, Mass. – It’s questionable whether Drake Maye will return after the Patriots’ quarterback suffered a head injury on the offense’s first possession against the Chargers.

On a third-and-4 at the New England 43-yard line with 10:25 left in the first quarter, Maye was hit and knocked to the ground by Chargers cornerback Cam Hart. The play was officially ruled a 2-yard sack by linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu as Maye went out of bounds before he could catch Hart’s hit.

Maye stayed there for a few more seconds before finally walking away. He entered the blue medical tent, where he remained for several minutes before exiting the tent and heading to the Patriots’ locker room.

Shortly after Maye entered the locker room, the Patriots considered it questionable whether Maye would return.

Maye was limited to just 30% of his snaps against the New York Jets in Week 8 after entering the concussion protocol and not returning. However, Maye played the following week and indicated that he did not feel he had suffered a concussion, but rather that the league’s protocol prevented him from being out.
