It’s time to take down the Pittsburgh Steelers

As I sit here, feeling a headache building between sips of eggnog in my new Ice Nine Kills sweatshirt, I’ve written, deleted, and rewrote the opening track for this six times. After what we just saw, what can you even say other than, “Yeah, this team isn’t going anywhere.”

From the opening round, it was the same Steelers we’ve seen over the last two weeks – disorganized, unmotivated and not at all a threat to teams actually competing in the AFC.

The Chiefs took a 13-0 lead after the Steelers punted on their first two drives, which spanned a total of eight plays. The Steelers weren’t finished yet, however. A quick drive with several big runs from Jaylen Warren got them into the red zone in three plays. Warren ran into the end zone, but a call from Darnell Washington brought him back. On the next play, Russell Wilson threw an interception to Justin Reid and that almost sealed the deal. Even when Wilson scored to take a 13-7 lead, you never really felt like the Steelers were going to take the game by the horns and make a statement. The only statement they have made is that they remain a second-rate team.

Even when they had time in possession, they didn’t do anything with the ball. They had the ball at 31-22, but their two turnovers and a turnover on downs killed them. They ran the ball well as Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren both finished for over 70 yards and the team accumulated over 200 yards on the day. But five sacks from Russell Wilson and a lackluster passing game doomed Pittsburgh offensively.

Defensively, this team is lost. After the first two scores, several players throw up their hands in confusion, wondering what happened. They didn’t register a sack against Mahomes, gave up 320 yards through the air and allowed 16 first downs over Mahomes’ arm. This is not a good defense and they lack any aggressiveness to help the defense with pressure. At 10-6 with three straight losses, Pittsburgh will likely be a No. 5 seed and head to Houston or Baltimore for the wild-card round, and nothing they’ve shown in the last month gives anyone reason to believe that they are. I would win. Let the Pittsburgh Steelers feed you, they are not a serious football team.
