Ja Morant’s injury status and update ahead of the Kings’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Sacramento Kings just picked up a big win against one of the best teams in the Western Conference, the Houston Rockets. However, if they plan to completely turn their season around, they need to build on this game and turn it into a winning streak.

Their next opponent is the formidable Memphis Grizzlies, led by their star guard Ja Morant. Morant is an incredible offensive threat, but his reckless style keeps him regularly on the injured list. So far, he has already missed 10 of the team’s first 22 games.

Do the Kings have to deal with this downward force? Who will the Kings have at their disposal? Here is the full pre-game injury report.

After going through a rough patch due to injuries, the Kings are returning to the trend of good health they’ve experienced over the past two games (*smacks wood aggressively*). The only player in his normal rotation currently listed on the injury report is Trey Lyles.

Lyles is out with the calf strain he suffered last week against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lyles will not be reevaluated until the end of the month. So there’s a good chance we won’t see him again for the rest of 2024.

Note that we said the only player in his “normal rotation.” The Kings are still missing their 2024 first-round draft pick, Devin Carter. Carter doesn’t have a chance to crack the rotation yet as he spent the entire first part of the season recovering from an offseason shoulder injury.

Despite his injury record, Morant is not on the injury report heading into this game (per ESPN). But the Grizzlies still have their fair share of missing players. After all, they are currently fourth in the NBA when it comes to player games lost due to injury (according to Spotrac).

For this game, the Grizzlies will be without Zach Edey (ankle), GG Jackson (foot) and Vince Williams Jr. (ankle). Of that trio, the one closest to a return is Edey, who was called up to the Memphis Hustle this week to get back in shape.

Following this game, the Kings immediately travel to San Antonio to face the Spurs on the road in their return game.
