Jack and Jackie Harbaugh will not be at Monday night’s HarBowl

Jack and Jackie Harbaugh will not be traveling to Los Angeles for “Monday Night Football.” They are flying the other way to Florida to be with their daughter Joani, son-in-law Tom Crean and their two grandchildren.

This is partly because Thanksgiving is also scheduled to be celebrated there the following Thursday. With both the Ravens and Chargers playing the following Sunday, they are in full preseason preparation mode.

Jack and Jackie visited Jim and his family in California for a few games. They were in Baltimore in late September to celebrate the Ravens’ big Sunday Night Football win over the Bills. Now it’s time to visit her daughter.

“We decide to go there and celebrate Thanksgiving with them and watch the game with them,” Jack said. “And we will have a lot of fun and joy along the way.”

Monday night’s game also falls squarely on Jack and Jackie’s 63rd wedding anniversary, which is at the forefront of Jack’s mind as he reflects on his sons’ travels. Long ago, Jackie took on the role of “head coach” of the family and their children, while Jack was the head coach of his football teams.

When asked why his sons succeeded wherever they coached, Jack said, “Thank God for mothers.”

“Just go back to Jackie. She was their head coach and still is,” Jack said. “They had me with them, but she was with them 14, 15, 16 hours a day when they were growing up.”

“Back in biology class in 1957, I looked in the front row of that class and four years later we got married. That was the decision that changed my life. … We’re just so blessed to have Jackie with us and.” She’s still the head coach for the Harbaugh family.
