“Jaguars HC Doug Pederson is noncommittal about Trevor Lawrence playing again.”

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson addressed the media following the team’s loss to the Houston Texans. Of course, one of the biggest questions was his reaction to the brutal shot fired by quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence went down Sunday after Texans linebacker Aziz Al-Shaair took a late hit that gave the Jaguars signal-caller a concussion. The attack was followed by a massive brawl involving several players. Al-Shaair was ejected, leading to more chaos as fans threw objects at the Texans defensive player.

After the game, Pederson addressed the media and gave a simple response to the hit. He explained: “It’s a game that has no place in our league.”

Pederson was also asked about Lawrence’s playing future in 2024, although the Jaguars head coach wouldn’t answer that question. While he stated that Lawrence would play again in the long run, he did not say whether he planned to play the young quarterback again in 2024.

Lawrence was shown exiting the tunnel with his wife, which was a good sign. The Jaguars quarterback is currently suffering from a concussion and is expected to miss the remainder of 2024.

This is just speculation as Pederson has not admitted this. Playing Lawrence at all might have been a mistake, aside from the concussion.

Lawrence missed Weeks 10 and 11 after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 9. This is the same AC joint issue he had in 2023. Considering the team entered the game 2-9, Lawrence wouldn’t have been allowed to play another snap for the rest of the season.

While that may sound extreme, the entire offense is built around Lawrence. He also signed a then-record five-year, $275 million contract extension before the start of the 2024 season.

Lawrence gives the Jaguars the best chance to win, but he shouldn’t have returned so quickly from his injury.

After the events surrounding the hit, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans also addressed Al-Shaair’s hit and stated: “It’s unfortunate. That’s not what we train.”

Brutal hits like this can lead to the end of a season and sometimes a career. Although Lawrence will likely return to action in 2025, he is likely out for the remainder of 2024 or should consider the situation.

Al-Shair was ejected from the game for the hit and will also likely face a suspension and fine from the NFL.
