Jaiswal-Starc Round 3 of the Bowled too slow (BTS) tournament goes to the Aussie while India are 123/6 in Adelaide | Cricket News

“Bowled too slow” is the new BTS chart-topper in the cricket city. And in the latest hit single, Mitchell Starc caught Yashasvi Jaiswal in front of his leg stump, becoming the first-ever golden duck of his Test career.

Starc had gone into the pink-ball Test in Adelaide laughing at suggestions that the “You’re coming at me too slow” sledge had upset his balance. In Perth, where the Aussies lost by 295 runs, Jaiswal’s chatter was picked up on the stump microphone. But on the eve of the game in Adelaide, Mitchell Starc feigned ignorance.

Speaking to cricket.com.au, Starc said: “I didn’t really hear him say that I bowled too slowly. I don’t say much to people these days. Maybe I was still there then, but now I’m getting on with it somehow. I played that flick shot and I think I threw pretty much the same ball and he defended it. I asked where the short recording was and he laughed at me. We just left it at that.”

The BTS duo could have actually struck a healthy, joking tone when Jaiswal struck for 160-odd and Starc set up the second Test for the Australians by winning Jaiswal early. Referee Chris Gaffaney did not hesitate after Starc delivered the ball full length in the first over and found Jaiswal stuck.

But although Starc claimed he did a lot more sledding “back then”, Perth had originally sizzled, which raised the tension while Starc became nervous while batting. Harshit Rana had pestered Starc with bouncers when Starc told the Indian debutant, “I bowl faster than you, Harshit, and I have a long memory.” Jaiswal had responded on Rana’s behalf a day later with his “bowl too slow” jibe .

Shortly after the release from Adelaide, the internet was abuzz with the “r” word.

Jaiswal had been busy in Perth verbally picking on opponents’ slow limbs and crackling bones. He had also told Nathan Lyon: “You’re a legend, but you’re old,” according to SEN 1170’s The Run Home.

However, Starc, speaking outside Adelaide, was full of praise for the brave youngster, who now has two ducks either side of the top score of 161. Others who have scored golden ducks in Test cricket include Sunil Gavaskar, Shiv Sunder Das, Wasim Jaffer and KL Rahul, a famous settler, and Starc recognized Jaiswal’s fundamental talent before Adelaide.

“He will play a lot of cricket for India and be very successful. Certainly he played really, really well in the second innings (in Perth). This first test allowed him to adapt to the conditions. We got him cheap in the first innings and he adapted to it and played a fantastic innings, so full credit goes to him. He is one of those new fearless young cricketers around the world,” Starc told cricket.com.au.
