Jamal Murray explains his controversial statement after Nuggets-Knicks

Monday night was a game to forget for the Denver Nuggets as the New York Knicks came to town and handed them a 145-118 loss. After Nuggets head coach Michael Malone’s statement that he didn’t want to “wash away” that poor performance went viral, a Nuggets player’s comments also caught media attention.

At the start of their game against the Knicks, the Nuggets earned an away win against the Los Angeles Lakers (127-102), in which they were by far the better team. With Los Angeles being a popular offseason destination for NBA players, Nuggets guard Jamal Murray made a controversial statement about the team’s focus following this win.

“It’s a long season. Boys have lives outside of basketball,” Murray said. “We just beat LA in LA. We have some people who live in LA, so they stayed in LA. I don’t think everyone was focused on that, and that’s what happens when you don’t have the focus.”

Fans were quick to call out Murray for a lack of accountability on his part, but the Nuggets point guard clarified his comments in a post on X.

“By the way, we all stayed in LA and had a great win. Not excluding myself guys, we didn’t play together tonight,” Murray wrote.

While Murray caused a stir on social media and national networks, he spoke out that night, explaining that he was referring to the entire team and not a select group of players.

In last night’s game against the Knicks, Murray finished the contest with 20 points and seven assists while finishing with a plus-minus of -13. The team will look to bounce back when it travels to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
