James Gunn reveals when the trailer for Superman will be released, new footage now live

We’re just a day away from the release of the first Superman trailer and the official launch of live-action DCU content, although some previous James Gunn projects appear to have become quasi-canon.

In a new video expressing his excitement for the film, Gunn links to a YouTube countdown video where the trailer will appear. This countdown ends on Thursday, December 19th at 9:53 a.m. ET. My guess is that there will then be some kind of additional countdown and the premiere will actually take place at exactly 10 a.m. ET.

Interestingly, this teaser trailer is promoted with…another teaser trailer. If you go to this video you will see a 30 second clip that contains the first actual footage. Lots of people looking up, that’s the film’s tagline, and although we don’t know most of them, in the first shot we see Lois Lane, Cat Grant and Jimmy Olsen, among others. The clip ends with Superman flying into the sky, although we don’t get a good look at the costume or anything like that.

Although it may appear so in this clip, this is not a rendition of Superman’s “first” appearance, as Gunn has said that he was already an established hero at this point. My theory is that these people are probably not even looking at Superman, but at the giant threat seen from the window of the first Superman poster, but I could be wrong.

In the last few days before the release of this trailer, we also received a full synopsis of the film:

“James Gunn takes on the original superhero role in the reimagined DC Universe with a unique blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humanity.”

Gunn has now done a few interviews about the film, in which he talks about how it won’t be quite as outwardly comedic as his other DC and Marvel projects, Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Here’s what he told The Wrap:

“There’s a lot of humor in it. People like Rachel (Brosnahan) are so funny and David (Corenswet) is very funny too, so there’s humor in it, but it’s about creating something that’s grounded, but it’s also an incredibly imaginative world, it’s fantasy, it takes something from other things like Game of Thrones, where it’s this universe where there are actually superheroes.”

In terms of where there Is Comedy, it’s easy to see how much of it will probably actually come from Lois Lane, considering Rachel Brosnahan spent five seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel being hilarious. When she was cast, out anyone So far she’s been cast in the DCU and seemed like the most perfect choice.

So, I’ll see you tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET sharp. Look up (at your screen).
