James Gunn’s Superman Poster Features Christopher Reeve Connection

The wait for the first “Superman” trailer is almost over.

James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, will hit theaters Thursday at 6 a.m. PT, Warner Bros. announced Monday. Fans got a new look at the superhero with a motion poster that paid homage to Christopher Reeve’s iconic version of Superman.

If you listen closely, you can hear a slowed down rendition of composer John Williams’ famous “Superman” theme from Reeve’s 1978 film. While Williams’ score is known for its blaring horns and triumphant tone, the poster for Gunn’s film remixes the music with a quieter, more thoughtful reinterpretation. The horns and brass are swapped for strings and a woman’s voice hums the iconic melody.

The poster shows Corenswet’s Superman looking upwards while flying. The red, blue and yellow tones of his costume blend into the background of the motion poster, creating a striking high-speed effect that gives the impression that Corenswet is zooming into the sky. The slogan is: “Look up”.

Warner Bros. also released a short teaser featuring the Superman logo, confirming the timing of the trailer’s release. It repeats the catchphrase “Look up” while reversing the famous “S” from top down to right side up.

Gunn’s Superman, previously called Superman: Legacy, hits theaters July 11. It is the first film to be released at the new DC Studios led by Gunn and Peter Safran. Corenswet stars alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner the Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and more.
