James Woods collapses during a CNN interview after losing his home to a fire

Actor James Woods fought back tears during an interview with CNN on Wednesday as he discussed the devastation of the Palisades fire that destroyed his home.

“I thought I was stronger than this,” Woods, 77, said as he teared up during the interview. He said his hillside home felt like “Mount Everest” and that he was too old to make the climb to his home these days.

But the heartbreaking moment came when he recounted how his wife Sarah was chatting with their 8-year-old niece and how she pulled out her piggy bank “so we could rebuild our house.”

Hollywood actors including Woods, Mark Hamill and Mandy Moore were forced to evacuate their homes because of the fire, which is now estimated at 15,832 acres. star Wars Actor Hamill said he evacuated “so at the last minute there were small fires on both sides of the road.” In an Instagram post, he added it was the “most horrific” fire since the Kinneloa fire in 1993.

Woods tweeted live videos of the fire near his home. These included scenes of flames shooting across the patio of his home and ravaging a neighbor’s home. Hours later, he revealed that his home’s smoke detectors were sending alarms to his phone, a sign that his property had fallen victim to the fire. “I couldn’t believe our lovely little house in the hills had lasted so long. It feels like losing a loved one,” he said. “It tests your soul to lose everything at once.”
