Jay-Z and Beyonce appear on the “Mufasa” red carpet amid rape lawsuit

LOS ANGELES – The Carters sent a message loud and clear at the premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King,” despite potential legal trouble for Jay-Z: The family that sticks together, stays together.

Mother-daughter duo Beyoncé and 12-year-old Blue Ivy Carter posed for photos on the red carpet at the Dolby Theater, home of the Oscars. The two dazzled in metallic gold dresses and were later joined by Jay-Z in a chocolate brown suit.

The family arrived without much fanfare among hundreds of guests and staff strolling across the red carpet of the tent. The Carters followed suit, repeating seemingly as quickly as they came – without walking the rest of the carpet or speaking to the media.

Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles also accompanied the trio for a photo on the red carpet. Beyoncé and Jay-Z were not listed as expected guests ahead of the film’s premiere, which hits theaters Dec. 20.

Other “Mufasa” stars spotted on the red carpet included Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, director Barry Jenkins and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda.

At the theater, the “Beautiful Liar” singer and Blue Ivy joined Jenkins, Miranda and the rest of the cast on stage to introduce the film. As the rest of the group left the stage to return to their seats, the mother-daughter duo exited the side stage holding hands.

Beyoncé gushed about her “beautiful little girl” on Instagram following her red carpet premiere appearances.

She wrote: “This is your night. You worked hard and did such a wonderful job as the voice of Kiara. Her family couldn’t be prouder. Keep shining.”

“Mufasa,” the prequel to 2019’s “The Lion King,” tells the story of Mufasa (voiced by Pierre) and Taka (Harrison Jr.) — who later becomes known as the villain Scar — who become friends as boys and grow up together. Rafiki (John Kani, voiced by Kagiso Lediga for young Rafiki) tells the saga to Kiara (Blue Ivy), Mufasa’s granddaughter.

Beyoncé briefly steps into her role as Kiara’s mother Nala – as does Donald Glover, who plays Kiara’s father Simba.

The Carters found themselves embroiled in legal drama this weekend when a woman who had anonymously filed a lawsuit alleging that Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000 filed the lawsuit changed that Jay-Z was the other celebrity who raped her. Jay-Z responded with a scathing statement, calling the allegations “despicable” and an “attempt at blackmail.”
