Jay-Z denies new sexual assault allegations in federal lawsuit

Grammy-winning rapper and business mogul Jay-Z vehemently denied the allegations Sunday night after he was named in a federal lawsuit accusing him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000 have.

The federal lawsuit was originally filed in October in the Southern District of New York by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, naming Combs as a defendant. The application was resubmitted on Sunday to include Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter.

In a statement released through his social media account Roc Nation and his representative Jana Fleishman, Carter called the lawsuit an “extortion attempt” and directly criticized Buzbee.

“My lawyer received an extortion attempt, a so-called demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would lead me to settle,” Carter said.

“I have no idea how you became such a deplorable human being, Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you that I have seen your like many times,” Carter wrote. “My heart and support go out to the real victims in the world who have to watch their life story being costumed for profit by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”

In response to the statement, Buzbee said Newsweek“Mr. Carter has previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm. He even filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym. What he does not mention in his most recent statement is that my office sent a letter of demand to his attorney on behalf of a defendant.” Victim and that victim never asked for a dime from him, but only sought confidential mediation.

Buzbee added: “Since I sent the letter on their behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has also attempted to bully and harass me and this plaintiff. His behavior had the opposite effect. She is encouraged. I am.” I am very proud of their determination regarding the allegations filed today. We will let the record speak for itself and clarify the facts in court and not in the media.

Newsweek contacted Jay Z’s rep via email on Sunday for further comment.

The anonymous plaintiff, identified as “Jane Doe,” claims the assault occurred after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty. According to the lawsuit, she was taken to a white house with a U-shaped driveway where she was made to sign what she said was a nondisclosure agreement.

“These allegations are so heinous that I am asking you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil lawsuit! Anyone who would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked up, don’t you agree? “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” Carter explained.

Carter expressed concern for his family, adding: “My only sorrow is for my family. My wife and I have to sit down with our children, one of whom is at the age where their friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn another loss of innocence.

For Combs, this lawsuit adds to growing legal challenges. The 55-year-old rapper and record producer is charged in federal court with racketeering and sex trafficking and remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

On November 27, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected his latest bail application, citing “serious and violent crimes” and evidence of witness tampering. His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2024.

Combs’ lawyers recently submitted a letter requesting access to a government-provided laptop to assist in his defense. The attorneys contend that since Combs first received the laptop on Nov. 25, he has been subjected to restrictive conditions that force him to choose between using the laptop and meeting with his attorneys.

Legal representatives for Combs called the lawsuits “shameless publicity stunts designed to extort payments from celebrities who fear lies are being spread about them.” They added: “Mr Combs has full confidence in the facts and integrity of the judicial process. The truth will prevail in court: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or acted upon anyone – man, woman, adult or minor.”
