Jay-Z’s lawyer says rape allegations are part of a “sprawling extortion saga” in a new filing.

Jay-Z’s lawyer says rape allegations are part of a “sprawling extortion saga” in a new filing.

Shawn Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, is defending himself against a lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2000.

A civil lawsuit that Jane Doe filed against Combs in the Southern District of New York in October was amended and refiled on December 8 to include the rapper and Roc Nation business mogul as a defendant.

The plaintiff alleges that Combs and Carter sexually assaulted her at a private afterparty Combs hosted after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. When Doe initially filed her lawsuit, she claimed that she was being harassed alongside Combs by an unknown male celebrity (“Celebrity A”). It was also said that a female celebrity (“Celebrity B”), whose identity was not released, was watching.

Carter – who is married to Beyoncé – released a statement on the Roc Nation X account denying the “vile” and “idiotic” allegations. He criticized Doe’s Texas-based personal injury attorney Tony Buzbee, who is filing over 120 lawsuits against Combs following Combs’ sex trafficking criminal trial, and claimed Buzbee tried to blackmail him by sending a “demand letter” before he did Carter added complaint.

Combs previously denied wrongdoing to his lawyers.

Buzbee told The Washington Post that the demand letter his company sent to Carter on behalf of Doe, who lives in Alabama, requested “a confidential mediation” and not a monetary payment.

Carter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has already filed a motion asking the court to deny Doe the opportunity to litigate the case anonymously or to dismiss the case entirely.

Doe’s lawsuit allegations against Carter

Yahoo Entertainment has obtained Doe’s revised lawsuit, which was filed on December 8th. It said: “Combs and Carter took turns attacking the minor,” who believes her drink was spiked, while “another celebrity stood by and watched.”

Doe claimed she went to Radio City Music Hall on September 7, 2000 to try to attend the VMAs. The then 13-year-old, who didn’t have a ticket, couldn’t get in and watched from outside on a Jumbotron.

She spoke to limo drivers parked outside to find out the location of the after-party. She claimed one of them supposedly worked for Combs and told her, “Combs liked younger girls” and she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” The driver said he would take Combs to the party and would come back and pick her up at the same location .

When Doe got in the car, it was an “approximately 20-minute” drive from midtown Manhattan to the party – no exact location is given, other than it was held at a “large white residence with a gated U-shaped driveway.”

At Combs’ after-party, Doe claimed she was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which she now believes she won’t make publicly available. She walked around and “recognized many celebrities” and “observed widespread drug use, including marijuana and cocaine.” Doe said she accepted a drink from a waitress and immediately felt “light-headed and dizzy, so she had to lie down.” She did this in an empty bedroom.

“Shortly thereafter, Combs entered the room with Defendant Carter and a prominent woman,” Doe’s complaint states. She claimed Combs approached her “aggressively” with a “crazy look in his eyes.” She said he asked her if she was “ready to party” and then threw her against a wall and then onto the bed.

“At this point, Carter began removing Doe’s clothing as she became increasingly disoriented,” the complaint states. “(Doe) was held down by Carter as he raped her vaginally while Combs and Celebrity B watched. After Carter was finished… Combs stepped forward and vaginally raped (Doe) while Carter and Celebrity B watched.”

Doe claimed Combs then tried to force her to perform oral sex, but she began punching him and punched him in the neck. She said Combs “backed away in surprise” and gave her the chance to grab her shoes and dress – which she wrapped around herself like a towel. She said she “walked around the apartment until she found the front door and was able to leave the party.” She said no one at the party tried to help her.

As she fled the home, Doe said she got dressed and ran to a gas station. An employee noticed she was in distress and allowed her to use the phone to call her father, who came to pick her up.

The complaint states that Doe suffered a “deep depression” after the sexual assault and that it “continues to affect every aspect of her life.” She has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suffers from a seizure disorder caused by stress and trauma.

According to Doe’s complaint, before refiling her amended complaint to include Carter, her attorney sent a legal letter to Carter “requesting mediation to resolve this matter.” It is alleged that Carter’s lawyers responded to the letter “by filing a completely frivolous lawsuit” accusing Carter’s team of “orchestrating a conspiracy of harassment, victimization and intimidation against (Doe’s) lawyers, their families, associates and former employees.” have to shut them up (Doe) from naming Jay-Z.”

Doe’s lawyers claim the attempt was to “scare” her and “discredit her attorney.” She refiled the amended complaint “due to Carter’s egregious conduct.”

Carter requests dismissal of the lawsuit

On Dec. 9, Carter’s attorney, Spiro, who won the dismissal of Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter case in July, filed a motion denying Doe’s request to proceed without naming him or to have the lawsuit dismissed.

The motion says that for months, Carter engaged in “an extortion campaign” to “compel the payment of an exorbitant sum of money” – “millions” – “without regard to the truth.” When Carter “refused to pay” and instead anonymously filed a lawsuit against Buzbee and his law firm for “extortionate conduct” on November 18, Doe’s amended lawsuit was filed and the “patently false” and “baseless” allegations are now public.

According to Carter’s filing, this all took place “under cover of darkness” and they are seeking “either dismissal of the allegations or” for Doe to “refile her complaint under her true name.”

Carter’s attorney said Doe’s amended complaint makes it clear that her case is “not about justice, but about a quick and comprehensive settlement against a celebrity.” It goes on to allege that Buzbee is behind a “sprawling extortion saga” in which he attempts to extort large compensations from celebrities, wealthy individuals and companies with public ties to Sean Combs.

In this case, Carter’s lawyer calls him “an upstanding public figure who has never been accused of anything like this in his life” and notes that the star “will vigorously defend himself and expose the truth: that the allegations in the Complaint is false.”

Carter and Combs have denied Doe’s allegations

In Carter’s statement on Sunday, the 24-time Grammy winner denied Doe’s “vile” allegations and accused the “deplorable” Buzbee of an “extortion attempt.”

He said his “only sorrow” was for his family because, amid the very public headlines, he and Beyoncé had to sit their children down to talk to them about the “nature of these allegations.” He said they would also explain to the children “the cruelty and greed of people.”

Carter said his “heart and support goes out to the real victims of the world who are watching their life story being costumed for profit by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”

Combs, who is currently in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, ahead of his 2025 trial on three felony counts of conspiracy to commit racketeering, sex trafficking and solicitation for prostitution, previously denied Doe’s allegations.

“Mr. Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts, their legal defense and the integrity of the legal process. “The truth will prevail in court: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone — adult or minor, male or female,” his lawyers said in a statement in October.

The identity of “Celebrity B” is currently unknown to the public.

This lawsuit is among more than 30 lawsuits filed against Combs in the past year. Buzbee alone has announced that he will file 120 individual sexual assault lawsuits against the founder of Bad Boy Entertainment.

Cuba Gooding Jr. was also named as a co-defendant in a sexual assault and harassment lawsuit filed against Combs by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. As part of Jones’ allegations against Combs, he claimed that Gooding sexually harassed and assaulted him on Combs’ yacht. Gooding denied the allegations.
