Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis injury status revealed

Will the 18-5 Boston Celtics finally have their full starting lineup back when they take on the resurgent 11-10 Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night?

According to the NBA’s most recent injury report, Boston will be able to use at least four of its five starters. Starting center Kristaps Porzingis, who has missed all but four games this year while recovering from a surgically repaired hamstring tendon, will be rested again to treat the injury. It’s a big loss. The two-pronged big man is a deadly rim protector who can also make a splash all over the field offensively.

Porzingis, a former All-Star with the New York Knicks, is averaging 21.0 points on .491/.360/.826 shooting splits, 7.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per night. Former five-time All-Star Celtics center/power forward Al Horford, who is dealing with a sprained left big toe, has been upgraded to available and will likely start in Porzingis’ status.

Four-time All-NBA Boston power forward Jayson Tatum, who missed his first game this week with right patellar tendinopathy, has been upgraded to available.

Celtics players JD Davison and Anton Watson both play for Boston’s G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.

However, Milwaukee could be missing a number of key forwards. Eight-time All-NBA Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who like Tatum looks like a top-five MVP contender and is currently the league’s leading scorer, is likely to suffer from right patellar tendinopathy. Starting small forward Khris Middleton, who has missed the entire season so far while recovering from bilateral ankle surgeries this summer, is expected to make his debut in 2024-25. His replacement, Taurean Prince, is listed as questionable due to not having COVID-19. Third-year small forward/shooting guard MarJon Beauchamp is also listed as questionable due to neck spasms.

Bucks second-year combo guard AJ Johnson, second-year forward Chris Livingston and rookie power forward Tyler Smith, the No. 33 pick by the G League Ignite in last June’s 2024 NBA Draft, are all in action on the club’s NBAGL squad, the Wisconsin Herd.

The fight begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
