Jeff Baena, longtime partner of Aubrey Plaza, has died at age 47

LOS ANGELES – Writer, producer and director Jeff Baena, known for comedies such as “The Little Hours,” “Life After Beth” and “Joshy,” has reportedly died. He was 47.

He died Friday at his home in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. A cause of death was not immediately announced.

Baena has been married to actress and producer Aubrey Plaza since 2021. They worked together on several projects, including “The Little Hours,” a 2017 R-rated comedy set in the Middle Ages, and “Life After Beth,” an R-rated comedy about zombies.

She has not made any public statements since the reports were published, but Deadline reports the family is “devastated and requests privacy during this difficult time.”

Plaza and Baena were together for 12 years.

He was born in Florida, studied in New York and eventually moved to California, where he worked with Robert Zemeckis, director of Forrest Gump, The Polar Express and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

According to Variety, Baena’s films screened at Sundance and the Edinburgh International Film Festival before being released by distributors including Netflix, IFC and Lionsgate.

According to IMDb, it was nominated for nine awards at these indie screenings.
