Rating the Jets’ 19-9 home loss to the Rams on Sunday.

attack

The Jets moved the ball with some efficiency (321 total yards) but couldn’t score, and that’s the goal. Somehow the Jets only scored nine points despite having three drives of 14 or more plays and not punting once in the game. Think about it.

The Jets didn’t punt once in the game and only scored nine points. QB Aaron Rodgers (28 of 42, 256 yards, 1 TD, 91 rating, 1 fumble) didn’t play badly, but couldn’t make a big play when the Jets needed one. His fumble in the fourth quarter set the Rams up for the go-ahead touchdown.

The Jets ran the ball just 20 times compared to 44 dropbacks, even though it was freezing cold inside MetLife Stadium.

defense

The Jets defense played better than last. Tony Adams had an interception, the unit’s third in two games.

The Jets held the Rams’ passing game to 110 yards. Puka Nacua had 56 receiving yards and Cooper Kupp had 24.

RB Kyren Williams (23 carries, 122 yards, 1 TD) had a good day with the ball, but the Jets defense played well enough to win the game.

Special teams

This group has had better days. Kicker Anders Carlson missed an extra point and a field goal, continuing the Jets’ season-long trend of having difficulty kicking.

Punt returner Xavier Gipson recovered a fumble at the end of the game, sealing the loss for the Jets. It was a boring day for punter Thomas Morstead, who didn’t have a single punt in the game.

Coaching

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich seems to have gone into “what the heck” mode and is just trying anything. He had some really questionable four-down calls on Sunday, including an attempt from his own 33 in the second quarter.

Playcaller Todd Downing had some good moments in this game, especially on the 99-yard drive to open the game. Play-calling in the red zone remains an issue, but it is unclear to what extent this is attributable to downing and how much Rodgers is changing the game.

This Jets staff is currently counting down the days until the season is over, and it’s hard to blame them.
