Jeremiah Smith becomes the 10th Ohio State receiver to reach more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single season

Jeremiah Smith added another note to his record-setting freshman season with the Buckeyes.

Smith passed the 1,000-yard mark with his fourth Catch in Ohio State’s 13th game of the season against Tennessee, becoming the 10th Buckeye to accomplish the feat.

Prior to 2021, Ohio State had five receivers with a top 1,000 receiving yards in a single season: Cris Carter (1986), Terry Glenn (1995), David Boston (1998), Michael Jenkins (2002) and Parris Campbell (2018). With Smith now reaching 1,000 yards, the Buckeyes have had the same number of receivers reach that mark in the last four seasons, including Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2021), Garrett Wilson (2021), Emeka Egbuka (2022) and Marvin Harrison Jr . (2022 and 2023).

Smith becoming Ohio State’s first-ever 1,000-yard freshman receiver is one of the Florida native’s many accomplishments this year. In early 2024, Smith broke Carter’s single-season records for catches, yards and touchdowns by a rookie. Carter held these records for 40 years after setting them in 1984.

Entering Saturday, Smith led Ohio State’s wide receiver room with 57 catches for 934 yards and 11 total touchdowns. Saturday night’s game was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season, with the first three coming against then-No. 1 Western Michigan. 3 Oregon and Northwest.

He scored touchdowns on Ohio State’s first drives of both halves of the game, scoring from 37 yards in the first quarter and 22 yards in the third quarter.
