The Phillies will acquire left-handed starter Jesús Luzardo from the Marlins in exchange for two prospects, sources told Mark Feinsand and Christina De Nicola of MLB.com on Sunday. The team has not yet confirmed the trade, with shortstop Starlyn Caba (Phillies No. 4 prospect) and outfielder Emaarion Boyd (Phillies No. 23 prospect) heading to Miami.

The Phillies will also acquire minor league catcher/outfielder Paul McIntosh from the Marlins, according to Feinsand.

TRADE DETAILS
Phillies get: LHP Jesús Luzardo, Minor League C/OF Paul McIntosh
Marlins get: SS Starlyn Caba (PHI #4 Prospect), OF Emaarion Boyd (PHI #23)

Entering his season at age 27, Luzardo has a career 4.29 ERA with 559 strikeouts in 105 MLB appearances (89 starts). The threat of injury limited him to just 12 starts and a 5.00 ERA in 1924. He missed two weeks in late April and early May with left elbow strain and then suffered a scratch in his start on June 22 due to a seasonal lumbar stress reaction.

But he was an above-average starter in 2022-23, posting a 3.48 ERA (129 ERA+) in 50 starts over those two seasons, including a start against the Phillies in Game 1 of the 2023 NL Wild Card Series.

Luzardo is eligible for arbitration for the second time this offseason and is under the club’s control until 2026.
