Jesus on hat tricks, graduation and fatherhood | Interview | News

It was a special night of celebration on Wednesday as Gabriel Jesus became a hat-trick hero, just a day after he announced his partner was expecting another baby.

Before kick-off, he even walked onto the pitch at the Emirates Stadium with his daughter, which he said gave him the strength to score a goal!

“It feels great,” he told us after the game. “Of course the first half wasn’t our best, but we still did our job in the second half and I was able to finish the action.”

It was no surprise that Gabby particularly praised Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, who both came on as substitutes in the second half to create scoring opportunities for our Brazilian.

“The quality that Martin has is amazing,” he added. “He is the type of player who can pass these balls and get you in front of the goal. I told him that; I said: “Martin, I know your qualities, so I’ll go in the back.” If it’s open, I’ll go, you don’t have to look, I’ll be there.” He played great balls (in the back) and I was able to close the action bring an end.

“B too, but I think everyone did their best today. It’s not easy when you change often. Normally we don’t play together much in games and that’s a bit difficult. In the end we did our job and won the game.”

When asked what goes through his mind when he plays one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Gabby mentioned an opportunity from a previous game that he wanted to make up for.

“I missed two clear chances against Monaco, but they were more difficult than today,” he said. “Of course I was disappointed that I didn’t score a goal in this game. In the end I just have to keep a clear and strong head and work the way I work every day with (coach Hussein) Isa and he told me: “Look Gabby, you have quality, you have to be calm and then you are …”I’m going to score.” That’s what I did today and I’m happy to come back to score goals because I’m number nine and the pressure to score goals will always be there. That’s it, that’s the challenge.”

Gabby will no doubt be hoping he can feature again against Crystal Palace as we travel to Selhurst Park for this weekend’s Premier League meeting with the Eagles.

“I think everyone is looking forward to it, not just me,” he said. “They have a lot of qualities front, center and back, so we have to keep up and then of course go there to win the game. “We know it’s not easy, like today, they have good players, a strong one Team, this will be another war and we have to try to win the game.”

Finally, Gabby spoke about how special this moment is for him and his family.

“It’s a special time,” he said. “Today I had the pressure on my shoulders to score a goal and then I also went on the pitch with my daughter, so she gave me strength, a smile, everything. “Then I could score goals, with my family celebrate and dedicate (my goals) to another baby.”
