Jets QB Aaron Rodgers joins prestigious 500-touchdown club

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers played in what may be the final game of his NFL career, adding another milestone to his list of accomplishments.

The future Hall of Famer threw his 500th career touchdown in Sunday’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins, becoming just the fifth player in NFL history to reach the plateau.

The 41-year-old Rodgers is on the .500 list along with Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and his former teammate Brett Favre (508).

Rodgers connected on a 5-yard pass to tight end Tyler Conklin to give the Jets a 7-6 lead with 7:57 left in the second quarter. Conklin handed the ball to Rodgers, who took it, jogged off the field and received a warm hug from interim coach Jeff Ulbrich.

When the Jets’ offense faltered in losses to the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, Rodgers was at .499 for eight quarters. A few days before the Miami game, he said, “499 would be good in my bed in 20 years.” can sleep, but 500 definitely looks better on paper.”

It was his 25th touchdown pass of the season.

Rodgers is unsure about returning for a 21st season and says he will take time in the offseason to weigh his options. His contract runs until 2025, but the chances of him returning to the Jets appear slim.

He expressed no optimism about a takeover, acknowledging that he could be part of the sweeping changes brought by the soon-to-be-defunct new regime.

Earlier this season, Rodgers became the eighth player to reach the 60,000-yard mark. On Sunday, he passed Matt Ryan with a 30-yard pass to Davante Adams for seventh place on the list.
